The Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) regulatory framework is a key part of the British Energy Security Strategy, which sets out the UK government’s ambition to connect up to 50GW of offshore wind generation to the country’s power network by 2030.
The facilitation of these ambitious plans requires significant changes and reinforcements to the UK’s existing onshore electricity transmission network. In order to achieve this, and to meet the government’s renewable electricity generation goals, ASTI has been introduced to assess, fund and incentivise the accelerated delivery of the large, strategic onshore transmission projects – supported by a potential £20bn investment.
